Facebook Tip: Add a Tab With Custom HTML To Your Page or Profile

Recently a client asked if there was a way to add some custom HTML to a Facebook "Page".  I did a little research and found the My Info application and some handy instructions for adding it to your page, rather than your profile.

  1. Go to the main About/Help page for My Profile Box: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=62088208022
  2. Click on Add to Page (instead of Go to Application)
  3. Choose the business page you want to add it to and then click Add to Page

See the image below:

The result is that you can add custom html to your page, and make it a "tab".  The downside is that the tab is called "My Info".

You can then "edit" your page, and specifically edit your "wall" settings to change your default landing page (really they mean "tab") and set that to the "My Info" tab.

If you know of any Facebook Apps that have more functionality like this, or any other techniques, please share in the comments!

I use static fbml and it is great.

Here is an example of it taking you to a landing page if you haven't joined the page, once you are added as a friend you don't see the landing page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Mobsters-2/136462996874#/pages/Mobsters-2/136462996874?v=app_4949752878

Another application that seems to allow similar functionality is the Static FBL Application.  The descriptions says: "Add advanced functionality to your Page using the Facebook Static FBML application. This application will add a box to your Page in which you can render HTML or FBML (Facebook Markup Language) for enhanced Page customization."

This app allows you to title your "box" which can then be added as a tab.  I think, all things considered, THIS is actually a better app to use for the functionality described above.

Thanks to Lee Crandell for finding and sharing this with us.

Very cool. Can you show an example Facebook page with the "My Info" tab as default?
