Drupal 6 Integrates OpenID
Submitted by Aaron Pava on June 19, 2007 - 9:05am.
OpenID is a decentralized, secure single sign-on system. It allows you to create a login at a site you frequent, and use that same login on any other site that supports OpenID.
Listen to TWIT's program on Open ID, how it works and what it means to you (not having to remember so many passwords for starters).
OpenID solves the identity problem, not the trust problem . When a user authenticates with OpenID, what they are doing is stating "I have the ability to prove my ownership of this URL".
OpenID is not a trust system. Trust requires identity first.

You can try it out on the new Identity Commons development site - I think the way they finessed the account creation issue is excellent.
The next step is to get it to support free peer-to-peer i-names, as once p2p i-name registries are plentiful, we'll have a solid basis for creating and managing reputation.
