After vastly too long a time, the set of modules that comprise the Media Mover universe has crossed a bridge which now enables highly sophisticated video driven sites to be run by free software easily, and to a degree, elegantly.

The rather unispiring video that you're looking at here is actual something to marvel at. First, it's being streamed from a different site. It's an embedded player that was produced automagically by the ever maturing FLV Media Player module. The module is able to connect in to the Views module and create custom recommendations based on the view that the administrator created. Further, this video is being played from an XSPF playlist which makes it possible to easily add bumper content to a single video. Or if you like, feed a player a full view of content, making it possible to create "channels" of content from views.

What is perhaps most important though is that nothing on the mediamover.24b6.net site has been custom coded. The process of generating FLV content, play list content, and design has been done entirely through the Drupal interface. Though you will need FFmpeg installed, once it is, you are good to go.

Though the term "DruTube" is unfortunate, it also expresses how powerful Drupal software has become. It means that individuals and organizations that don't want to be held to aggressive user licenses can promote their own content without fear of its loss or removal. Thank you to everyone in the Drupal community who has worked to make Drupal a platform with such enormous potential that we can dream of taking on the web giants.

thanks to Chris from CA for the name

One giant leap for Free Software!

(I think the name is better than Droople Video or Dreever.)
